Family: Greta is part of a family of hereditary witches who specialize in necromancy. This winds up being a surprisingly diverse field of magical study, but for the most part they work with human dead and their remains. Generations of being ruthless, brutal, and highly capable have allowed them to accrue considerable generational wealth. They are known within the magical community of their world and have a reputation for being an impressive gothic bastion that occasionally terrorizes but often helps to uphold the secrets that allow the mundane and supernatural worlds to co-exist. They are, after all, highly effective at dealing with dead bodies and sorting out the secrets of the dead and have a surprisingly stable reputation.
There are, however, occasional outliers that pop up every so many generations with either limited or missing abilities. It was a family secret and shame that Greta's continued existence brings to light.
The current family network exists more as a clan than a formal family structure with members being referred to as grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins, and nieces and nephews based on generation rather than literal relationships. Her mother and father are still alive and vaguely disappointed but shockingly loving. Her cousin Jasper is a dick.
